You’ll wish you knew her : What a brave, hilarious, touching and authentic piece of writing! It allowed me to know Elaine better (we were only briefly friends in an online horse lovers’ group), and it also made me totally wish I could have known her better. She’s a crackerjack writer, which I know partly because I’m reading lots of memoirs in order to prepare for/delay writing my own. Her style of living, as well as her style of writing, just makes you feel like (and wish) you were with her, through all of it. She talks to the reader like a good girlfriend, one that you let it all hang out with. She lets you step inside a mind that can be brilliant one moment and then fling gallows humor at you the next. My favorite chapter is titled “F*ck the Rainbow Bridge”, and if you can’t grasp why someone might say that, then read and learn - or scroll on, as they say these days.

An honest, loving memoir : The depth of feeling, the honesty, the love, the truth, the ribald good humor, and the full-hearted embrace of life contained in this book make it a very good place to spend one's time, along with a good cup of tea or a shot of whiskey. Elaine Kirsh Edsall is a wonderful writer and her husband Mark's eloquent contribution adds a poignant continuation to this beautiful memoir.

Beautifully written : A captivating memoir. I found Elaine to be a remarkable person, along with her husband Mark. While there were plenty of times I cried, there were just as many times that I smiled. Hats off to Mark and Anna for making Elaine's story come to life.

A heartfelt memoir : I can tell how much I like a book by the number of dog ears I deface the book with. A Horse A Husband And Cancer has a lot of pages marked for me to read again. Elaine offers relevant insight for me through her experiences with horses, cancer, emotions, and letting go.

Living life with strength humor and love is what we all strive for : Elaine lived her life with all three of those things. Reading her story of a Horse, a Husband, and Cancer gave us a window into the life of an amazing woman. I only wish I could have known her better.

positive attitude. : Elaine lived for 30 years with cancer and with her positive attitude she was determined it wasn't going to stop her living the way she wanted to. At times she had to stop for treatments but always got back to life as soon as possible. She knew Mark was always there for support but still remained independent as much as she could. Having horses kept her occupied and sane.

A Poignant Read, But Such a Special One : A very special book, written by a very special couple. If you want to read a true love story by the bravest of lady's then this is one for you.
